This Saturday I sat at a Vegan feast and chatted with a pediatric nurse about child and infant mortality rates. There is a need for pediatrics in Lesotho, there is no reason for mortality to be so high. The conversation moved to miscarriage and infant death in the US.
My internet hadn't worked for 7 days (thanks Vodacom) and so I would not find out until the next day that a good friend in the States had just lost her baby after a healthy 9 month pregnancy. My heart is breaking. We like to believe that medicine is so advanced that we can save these children from their fate and save parents the pain. Even in the States we can't do it.
All my love to you Griffin and your family. Your mom says you now have wings, I hope you soar.
